Ministry of Tourism, EWCA, OTC, and Stakeholders Discuss Bale Mountains UNESCO Inscription Process With President Shimellis Abdissa, May 3, 2022
The Oromia Tourism Commission and several stakeholders held a very fruitful discussion with President Shimellis Abdissa of the Oromia Regional Government on the ongoing inscription process to get the Bale Mountains National Park designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The discussion addressed ways to mitigate challenges in conservation, improve the livelihoods of the local people as well as strengthen Oromia and Ethiopia’s readiness to follow through with the inscription process.
The discussion was attended by the Minister of Tourism, Ambassador Nasise Chali, Commissioner of the Oromia Tourism Commission, Lelise Dhugaa, Director and Deputy Director of the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority, Kumera Wakjira and Solomon Mekonnen respectively, Ethiopia Country Director for the Frankfurt Zoological Society Dr. Justin Irvine and the society’s Programme Manager Hussein Indries.
